Key Rule for Married Women (Bihar Jati Praman Patra)
According to the latest Bihar Government guidelines, the Caste Certificate for a married woman must be issued based on her Father’s Name and Father’s Address.
- Do not use the husband’s caste or address as the primary basis for the certificate.
- The certificate should ideally be applied for at the Block/Circle office of the father’s permanent residence.
- If applying from the husband’s address, you must strictly attach proofs (like the father’s caste certificate or land records) linking the applicant to her father’s caste.

Required Documents for Women
To ensure your application is not rejected, keep the following scanned documents (JPEG/PDF, under 200KB) ready:
- Applicant’s Photograph (Passport size).
- Identity Proof: Aadhaar Card (Recommended), Voter ID, or PAN Card.
- Address Proof: Aadhaar Card (Father’s side preferred for caste proof) or Electricity Bill.
- Self-Declaration Form: Generated during the online application.
- Supporting Document (Crucial for Married Women): Copy of Father’s Caste Certificate, Land Receipt (Rasid) of Father, or Genealogy (Vanshavali) to prove caste.
How to Apply Online at serviceonline.bihar.gov.in
Follow these steps to apply for a Jati Praman Patra:
- Visit the Official Portal: Go to serviceonline.bihar.gov.in.
- Select Service: On the left side, click on “General Administration Department” > “Issuance of Caste Certificate” > “Block Level”.
- Fill the Form:
- Select Gender: Female (Mahila).
- Name Fields: Enter Name in English and Hindi.
- Father’s Details: Enter Father’s Name and Address correctly (This determines the caste).
- Husband’s Details: Enter Husband’s Name (for record, but caste is derived from father).
- Address: Fill the permanent address (Father’s home) and present address.
- Upload Photo: Upload a recent passport-size photo.
- Aadhaar Verification: If your mobile is linked to Aadhaar, you can verify via OTP. If not, leave the Aadhaar field blank and upload a scanned copy later.
- Submit & Attach Annexures: Review the form, click submit, and upload the required documents (ID proof, Caste proof).
- Final Submit: Submit the application and print the Acknowledgement Receipt containing the Application Reference Number.
How to Download the Certificate
After 10 working days, visit the RTPS portal and click on “Download Certificate”. Enter your Application Reference Number and Name to download the digitally signed PDF.
